Upright Bass

As well as my main instrument the saxophone, I play upright bass.

I originally took up the instrument with the aim of playing with a classical orchestra and I joined the double bass section of the excellent EMG Symphony Orchestra in 2013. I have continued to play with them on and off since.

In the last couple of years I have concentrated on playing jazz bass and have gigged with a number of excellent Southwest musicians including guitarists Kyle Norgate and Jesse Molins, and pianists Matt Johns, Simon Latarche and Peter Tamblyn. I’ve performed  as part of a duo at Calstock Arts, Ashburton Arts, Bridport Arts playing both  bass and saxophone during the performance.

I am the house bass player at Red Pendulum Jazz, a new jazz night which I host at Exeter Phoenix.

I have recently taken delivery of a new gamba style bass made for me by Frome based luthier Martin Penning. Pictures below and during construction here.
