As well as my main instrument the saxophone, I play upright bass and gig regularly as a jazz bassist.
I originally took up the instrument with the aim of playing with a classical orchestra and I joined the double bass section of the excellent Devon Philharmonic Orchestra (formerly EMG Symphony Orchestra) in 2013. I have continued to play with them on and off since.
Recently I have concentrated on playing jazz bass and have gigged with many excellent Southwest musicians. Occasionally I play both saxophone and bass on the same gig and particularly enjoy doing so in a duo setting. I have worked with several different musicians in this way including pianists Matt Johns and Peter Tamblyn. These duo gigs have included performances at Calstock Arts, Ashburton Arts, Bridport Arts and INTOBodmin.
I was the bass player in the house trio at Red Pendulum Jazz, a jazz night at Exeter Phoenix.
